Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps on Thursday said the investigation into a home that caught fire twice in under 12 hours this week has determined the cause of the initial blaze.
“Fire Investigator Nathaniel Williams from the Vicksburg Fire Department worked closely with James Jefferson Jr. and Kevin Martin from the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate the cause of the fire,” Stamps said. “Their thorough investigation concluded that electrical issues caused the fire.”
Stamps said the home initially caught fire Tuesday night, completely destroying the structure.
“At approximately 7:41 p.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department received an urgent call regarding a structure fire at 1 Oak Hill St. Upon arrival, the firefighters were confronted with the daunting challenge of navigating their fire trucks up the steep, narrow hill leading to the property,” Stamps said. “Despite the treacherous incline, the brave firemen moved swiftly, hauling hoses and essential equipment up the towering slope. The building was already fully engulfed in fierce flames, illuminating the night sky with a flickering orange glow. Determined and relentless, the fire crews worked tirelessly to extinguish the inferno, but despite their efforts, the structure succumbed to the blaze, resulting in a total loss.”
Wednesday morning, Stamps said, what was left of the structure reignited.
“At 10:35 a.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department promptly received a call regarding a structure fire that had reignited from the previous night’s incident,” he said. “The firefighters swiftly dispatched to 1 Oak Hill Street. Upon arrival, they confronted thick smoke coming from the structure. The fire crew efficiently launched a fire attack attack and successfully extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.”
