Second symposium: Vicksburg 200 Committee announces next event featuring ‘Vicksburg’s Legacy of Lifelong Learning’

The Vicksburg 200 Committee and the City of Vicksburg have announced they will be presenting the second Bicentennial Symposium featuring “Vicksburg’s Legacy of Lifelong Learning” Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the Vicksburg City Auditorium, 900 Monroe St. This event is free and open to the public.

Panelists include:
– Bess Averett, Friends of the Vicksburg National Military Park executive director.
– Dr. Susie Calbert, PhD, executive director of Vicksburg-Warren Youth Development
Center.
– Donald “Field” Kizza-Brown, postdoctoral fellow in the Department of English, Brown
University.
– Dr. Albert Dorsey Jr., assistant professor, Department of History, Jackson State
University.
– William Harrison, CEO (B)STEM Academy; CEO Omni Sourcing IT; Sylvan Learning
Jackson.
– Sen. W. Briggs Hopson III, Mississippi Senate Education Committee and Vicksburg-Warren school board attorney.

Vicksburg-Warren School District Career & Technical Administrator Dr. Terence James will be moderating the panel. Toni Williams will serve as the master of ceremony. During the program, presentations will be made for lifelong learning trailblazer acknowledgements. There will also be special programming to open the event by Vicksburg-Warren School District students and spoken word artist Courtney Reed.
