PEARL — A cold front is set to bring Arctic air, freezing temperatures and some winter weather to Mississippi this week. It reached Porter’s Chapel Academy’s bats first.

Park Place Christian Academy’s Graham Gilmore had nine strikeouts in a four-inning no-hitter and the Crusaders beat Porter’s Chapel 12-0 in the first half of a baseball home-and-home series on Tuesday.

The teams will play again Thursday in Vicksburg at 2:30 p.m. The game was moved up several hours because of the cold weather descending upon the state.

PCA (0-5) scored nine runs in the second game of a doubleheader against Port Gibson last week, but has a total of five in its other four games. This was the second time it’s been shut out.

The Eagles’ only baserunner on Tuesday was Chad Fuson, who walked in the first inning. Fuson did have a solid pitching performance that kept PCA in the game for a while, with six strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. He walked three batters and gave up seven hits.

Park Place touched Fuson for nine runs, but only three were earned. Porter’s Chapel committed five errors and had a total of six wild pitches and passed balls.

Peyton Bray was 2-for-3 with a triple and five RBIs for Park Place, and Carson Hill was 4-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
