Jim Barnes was ill at the infirmary. • Viola Dana was seen in “Forty Winks” at the Alamo Theater.

Mrs. Hettie Warnock died at her home on Fort Hill. • A meeting on behalf of the Townsend Plan was held at the courthouse. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

Hugh Joseph,McKenna was rescued from the Japanese in the Philippines. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

Mrs. W.M. Holder was ill at her home on South Street. • Howard D. Miller of Delta, Louisiana died. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Mr. and Mrs. John Hogue Jr. of Newleton, Louisiana announced the birth of a daughter, Sarah. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Vicksburg business and civic leader Louis L. Switzer died.

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

Charlene Thomas, a teacher at All Saints’ Episcopal School, was Mississippi’s and the Southern District’s Educator of the Year. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Members of St. Mary’s Episcopal and Christ Episcopal churches walked in a procession on Main Street with the Right Rev. Victor Scantleburry, a former suffragan bishop in Panama. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

Vicksburg Police Department officer Brenda Brown, Warren County Sheriff’s Office deputy Ruby Sias Hunter and Vicksburg Fire Department Lt. Ben Foley were honored by the Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolent Club. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

Vicksburg High School teacher Donna Carpenter  was named Educator of the Year at the secondary level by the Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce.
