Vicksburg man arrested for stabbing

A Vicksburg man is in custody this week after allegedly stabbing another man in the chest following an argument Saturday night.

Vicksburg Chief of Police Penny Jones said 49-year-old Patrick Smith was taken into custody Sunday and charged with aggravated assault after an argument at the corner of Second North and Clay streets became physical.

Jones said witnesses on the scene said Smith stabbed another man in the chest before fleeing the scene.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Merit Health River Region Hospital, before being transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Smith appeared Tuesday in Vicksburg Municipal Court in front of Judge Angela Carpenter, who set his bond at $25,000 and bound him over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
