Bernard Brown, arrested in connection with the May 28, 2023 shooting death of Shandrick “Black” Montgomery, had his bond revoked in the courtroom of Judge M. James Chaney Friday.

According to court records, the 2023 incident began around 11 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Locust Street where Montgomery was found lying in the street. He was later declared deceased by Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey. The Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) later arrested Brown and Judge Penny Lawson set bail at $1.25 million.

One of the conditions of Brown’s bond was that he not commit any further crimes, including misdemeanors. In January, he was involved in an incident with his wife and their vehicles in a parking lot in which she filed a complaint. Again, in February, his wife filed a complaint with VPD for assault involving Brown. According to testimony given in court Friday, a lieutenant for VPD testified that Brown’s wife came into the department and stated Brown had barged into the house she was living in and assaulted her in her bedroom, hitting her in the face and shoulder. The VPD officer testified that she saw evidence of a “contusion” on the victim’s shoulder.

Brown’s attorney Eugene Perrier called the suspect’s wife to the stand as a witness, where she testified that she and Brown have been married for 29 years, adding they are “just going through some stuff.” She further stated this kind of thing had never happened before and she only went to the police because she wanted “seven-to-10 days apart.” She said it was as much her fault as it was his. When Assistant District Attorney Branan Sutherland repeatedly asked if she had filed a report for domestic violence, she would not answer “yes” or “no.”

Chaney advised her that she could be charged with filing a false police report if the circumstances stated of the police testimony were untrue. Brown was silent. In light of this, Chaney ruled that Brown’s bond would be revoked.

In another case, Perrier filed a motion to withdraw as counsel for Kameron Williams. Williams is accused of murder in the shooting death of Dapeytric Coleman on Thursday, June 2, 2023. Perrier said he has not had cooperation from the client and is not prepared to move forward with trial, which is set for March 10. Motion to withdraw was denied. Chaney advised Williams that it would be difficult to find a new attorney at this point and he should cooperate with his attorney.

Additionally, Jeremy Austin was charged with using a computer to lure a person for sexual purposes and a second charge of rape in January 2024. He has previously been charged with possession of controlled substances and aggravated assault.

Jerrell Donnell Oliver was found having failed to register as a sex offender and remanded back to an immediate five years in prison.
