Tallulah Academy had one exciting baseball game Saturday, and another it would rather forget.
J.T. McDaniel scored what turned out to be the winning run on a balk in the third inning, and Tallulah beat Claiborne Academy 4-3 in its first game at the Riverfield Academy Invitational.
The Trojans couldn’t keep the good times rolling, though, and lost 11-0 to Riverfield in their second game. They only had two hits and gave up 10 runs in the last two innings.
Against Claiborne, McDaniel hit an RBI double and scored on an error in the first inning. He reached on another error in the third, worked his way around the basepaths by tagging up on a fly out and stealing third, then scored on a balk to put the Trojans ahead 4-3.
Claiborne did not seriously threaten in the last two innings. The game was shortened to five innings because of tournament rules.
McDaniel also pitched three innings and had four strikeouts.
Tallulah Academy will host Union Christian Academy Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 5 p.m., and then come to Bazinsky Field in Vicksburg to face St. Aloysius at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28.
