Big two-out rally sends St. Aloysius surging past Manchester

One big inning was all it took for the St. Aloysius Flashes to shake off their Monday baseball blahs.

The Flashes scored eight runs in the fifth inning — the last seven of them with two outs — and surged past Manchester Academy to win 9-4.

Sadler Lambiotte stole home for St. Al’s first run, but the rally really got rolling when a dropped third strike that would have ended the inning allowed another run to score.

The next six St. Al batters reached base, including RBI singles by Keller Bradley, Clark Hobson, and Lambiotte again.

St. Al sent 12 batters to the plate in all and had six hits as they turned a 4-0 deficit into an 8-4 lead. Hobson hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning for the final run of the game.

Hobson finished 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and one run scored, and Lambiotte was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored.

Bradley scored two runs and drove in another, and Will Roberson had two hits and scored a run.

Walt Andrews pitched 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to hold the line until the Flashes’ bats came around. He only allowed one hit and one walk, and struck out six batters.

Monday’s game was the first of three this week for St. Al (4-3). It will go on the road Tuesday to play Tri-County, and then is back at Bazinksy Field on Friday to face Tallulah Academy. Both junior varsity games start at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 6.

Friday’s game will be Kids Night. Between games, at approximately 5:45 p.m., children are invited to run the bases and join the team on the field for introductions and the national anthem. St. Al will also introduce its Diamond Girls.
