Zeke West Bass Tournament
The 17th Annual Zeke West Memorial Team Bass Fishing Scholarship Tournament is Scheduled for March 1 at Lake Bruin State Park.

The fishing tournament begins at 6:30 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m. The registration fee is $100 per boat with an optional Big Bass fee of $10 per person. First place is a guaranteed $3,000 prize, and additional prizes will be paid for second thru fifth place based on the number of entries.

There will also be a Lucky Duck Hunt for tournament participants. Each number will represent a prize to be awarded at the end of the tournament.

Run Thru History
Registration is open for the 46th annual Run Thru History, a 10-kilometer run and 5K race walk in the Vicksburg National Military Park. The race will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 8 a.m.

The registration fee for the 10K run and 5K walk is $40, and it is $20 for the children’s 1-mile fun run. The entry fee includes a Run Thru History shirt; admission to the after party at the Hampton Inn at 3330 Clay Street, across from the VNMP; and more.

You can also register in person at the Purks YMCA off of East Clay Street; at the Hampton Inn, 3330 Clay St., from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday; or before the race from 7 to 7:50 a.m. outside the VNMP visitors center.

Key City Classic run
The Key City Classic run is scheduled for Saturday, April 26. The race will consist of 5- and 10-kilometer runs, a 5K race walk, and a children’s 1-mile fun run.

The race begins at 8 a.m. at the corner of Monroe and Grove streets and follows a course through the downtown Vicksburg area.

The race will be held in conjunction with the Old Courthouse Museum’s Spring Flea Market, an event that includes more than 100 vendors selling local wares.

The entry fee for the run and walk events is $25, and it is $10 for the fun run. The 1-miler is limited to children ages 12 and under. Online registration is available through RaceRoster.com. For more information, contact Laura Price at gracecc@live.com or call 601-636-5703.

The Key City Classic is a fundraiser for Grace Christian Counseling Center, a non-profit organization that provides mental health counseling, education, and services for individuals, families, and groups.

Red Carpet Bowl scholarships
Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Red Carpet Bowl scholarships. The $1,000 scholarships are available to all graduating high school seniors from Vicksburg High, Warren Central, Porter’s Chapel Academy and St. Aloysius.

Application forms are available in the guidance offices of all four high schools. Students must include a list of activities, the name of the college they wish to attend, and submit a 500-word essay on why the Red Carpet Bowl Scholarship is important to them.

The deadline to apply is March 4. Applications should be mailed to: Dr. Robert Abraham, 3038 Indiana Ave., Vicksburg, MS 39180.

Viking A Club Scholarship
Applications are now being accepted for the Warren Central Viking A Club Scholarship.

Six $1,000 scholarships are available to graduating senior athletes at Warren Central High School who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, athletic participation, and academic success.

Applicants must be seniors at WCHS; have a minimum, unweighted GPA of 3.0; and have earned at least one varsity letter in his or her junior or senior year. Students who have accepted or expect to accept a significant athletic scholarship should discuss this with Dr. Stanton prior to applying, as they might be ineligible.

The deadline to apply is April 1 at noon. Application forms are available at the school office or by emailing Erin Hern at erinhern@yahoo.com.

VHS basketball tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s boys basketball team will be held March 5-7, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. each day in the school’s gym. All players must have basketball shoes, workout clothes, and a current physical.

Sandlot tryouts
The Sandlot of Vicksburg is holding open tryouts for its youth softball teams in the 8U, 10U and 12U age divisions.

Vicksburg-WC alumni football
Alumni Football USA is organizing an alumni football game between former players from Vicksburg High and Warren Central. The game is for adults ages 18 to 65. Equipment is provided for all players, and the game will have special rules to ensure safety.

Miss Mississippi pickleball and tennis
The Miss Mississippi Corportation will host pickleball and tennis tournaments at Halls Ferry Park in April.

The Miss Mississippi Pickleball Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, April 5. It is a doubles tournament, with men’s, women’s and mixed teams, and entries are limited to 20 teams per event.

The entry fee is $40 per team for one event, and an additional $20 for a second event. The registration deadline is March 31.

The Miss Mississippi Tennis Tournament is scheduled for April 11-13 at Halls Ferry Park. It is an adult doubles tournaments, with men’s and women’s events for players ages 18-55 and over. Entry fees are $30 and $40, depending on the division.

Vicksburg Buccaneers youth football
Registration is open for the 2025 season of the Vicksburg Buccaneers youth football and cheer program.
The team is for children ages 5-12 and is free. Preseason training begins in late March and the season in late July.
