Tiebreakers ruled the day at Halls Ferry Park, and unfortunately for Warren Central the Jackson Victors left the tennis court in charge.
Warren Central pulled out three three-set victories in doubles matches, but lost two others and the overall points race 4-3 to the Victors.
The Victors won both singles matches in straight sets, then won the No. 1 girls doubles and the mixed doubles points in third-set tiebreakers.
The Victors’ Molly Kackley and Beverly Horton beat WC’s Lilli Feibelman and Sydney Sullivan 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 in girls’ doubles. In mixed doubles, Jack Cooksey and Clara Barton Calicote defeated WC’s Charles Harris and Ellie Tennison 2-6, 6-1, 1-0.
Both of Warren Central’s boys’ doubles teams and the No. 2 girls’ doubles team won in three sets.
In No. 1 boys’ doubles, Luke Bond and Brady Taylor beat Cooper Smith and Samuel McDaniel 6-3, 5-7, 1-0. At the No. 2 position, Sam Harris and Gray Lampkin came from behind to beat Sam Miller and Joseph McDaniel 5-7, 6-2, 1-0.
At No. 2 girls’ doubles, the Vikings’ Amelia King and Avery Hern won 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 over the Victors’ Anna Gibson and Mariah Bayati.
Thursday’s match was the third of a run of four in five days for Warren Central. It lost 4-3 to Germantown on Monday, beat Ridgeland 5-1 on Wednesday, and will host Brandon Friday at 3 p.m. at Halls Ferry Park.
The Vikings did not lose a set in their dominant Region 2-6A victory over Ridgeland. Ivan Ozhorelev and Avery Hern won in boys and girls singles, respectively; the boys’ doubles teams of Bond and Sam Harris, and Taylor and Lampkin dropped a total of two games in their victories; and Tennison and Charles Harris won 6-0, 6-0 in mixed doubles, as did Feibelman and Sullivan in No. 1 girls’ doubles.
