Mayfield said The Spring Break Read and Feed event aims to ensure that children remain engaged in learning while also addressing the food insecurity many families face during school breaks. Attendees will enjoy free books and nutritious meals, creating a fun and educational environment for all, he added.

“We want to encourage a love for reading while also supporting our community’s needs,” Mayfield said. “Spring break should be a time of enrichment, not a time of struggle for families. This event allows us to give back, ensuring that children have access to books and healthy meals.”

Mayfield said the initiative is made possible through partnerships with the United Way of West Central Mississippi and the Warren County-Vicksburg Public Library, who have generously contributed resources to make this event a success.

There are still opportunities to donate food to this project or volunteer to serve food or mentor local students. All financial contributions should be made to the United Way of West Central Mississippi to be earmarked “Spring Break Read and Feed.”
