The 24th annual Downtown Mardi Gras Parade rolled down Washington Street Saturday afternoon.
Nestled between the 46th annual Run Thru History at Vicksburg National Military Park and the 13th annual Carnaval de Mardi Gras Gumbo Cook-Off at the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation, the parade drew a crowd on a busy weekend in the River City.
This year’s parade was led by Mardi Gras Queen Norma Massey and, following the festivities, the winners of float awards were announced by Downtown Vicksburg Main Street officials.
This year’s winners include: Best in Show, Bally’s Vicksburg Casino & Hotel; Best in Business, Golding Barge Line; Best Nonprofit Krewe, Krewe of Elks; Most Original, Krewe of De Hill; Rhythm and Beads Award, Pretty Pink Panthers; Most Enthusiastic, Omega Phi Fraternity Eta Tau Chapter; Best Recreational Club, The Dancin’ Grannies; Standing Ovation Award, Westside Theatre Foundation; Carnival Cavalry Award, American Legion Post No. 3.
“A huge thank you to the City of Vicksburg, the Vicksburg Police Department, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Victoria Amborn and our amazing Volunteers, Dean Anderson, Rebecca Sigh and Margie Alexander, for making sure everything rolled smoothly,” Downtown Vicksburg Main Street Executive Director Kim Hopkins said following the parade.
