A range of severe weather is expected in Warren County Tuesday spanning most of the day, local weather officials have said.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, Vicksburg is expected to see possibly severe storms beginning just after 1 p.m. with wind gusts as high as 35 mph and rainfall amounts totaling between a half and three-quarters-of-an-inch.
Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer said residents should take precautions now in order to be prepared for the myriad of weather possibilities Tuesday.
“People need to be paying attention probably starting around noon and on into the evening (Tuesday),” Elfer said. “We’ll start catching it sometime after lunch. People just need to make sure they have their severe weather plans in place, that they have more than one way to get alerts and that all of their phones and devices are charged.”
Elfer said a weather briefing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, but added he doesn’t expect much of a change in the forecast.
“We’re kind of right in the middle of it all, so people just need to be ready,” he said. “We’re currently a five out of 10 on the tornado scale and a three out of five for severe weather.”
Elfer said, along with rain and wind, large hail is a possibility Tuesday and tornados cannot be ruled out.
