Voting is under way for The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.

This week’s nominees are track athletes Zion Knox (Vicksburg) and Chester Savage (Warren Central); baseball player Clark Hobson (St. Aloysius); and basketball player Sophie Masterson (Porter’s Chapel).

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline.

Zion Knox, a freshman with Vicksburg High’s girls’ track and field team, won the long jump and triple jump at the season-opening Viking Invitational on Feb. 27. She jumped 17 feet, 2 1/2 inches in the long jump and 36-8 in the triple jump.

Chester Savage, a senior with Warren Central’s boys’ track and field team, won four events at the Viking Invitational on Feb. 27. He won the 110 and 300 meter hurdles in 16.27 and 42.18 seconds, respectively, and was on the winning 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams.

Sophie Masterson, a senior with Porter’s Chapel Academy’s girls’ basketball team, scored eight points in the MAIS Class 2A/3A All-Star Game on Feb. 28 to lead the White team to a 70-48 victory over the Blue.

Clark Hobson, a senior with St. Aloysius’ baseball team, batted .400 with six RBIs as the Flashes won two of their three games last week. He also pitched five innings and had five strikeouts against Tri-County on Feb. 25.

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline. The winner will be announced Wednesday on vicksburgpost.com and featured in our Friday print edition.
