Warren County teams postpone Tuesday games ahead of severe weather threat

The threat of severe weather caused all of Warren County’s high school sports teams to take a day off.
Officials at the Vicksburg Warren School District and St. Aloysius said that all athletic events scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, have been postponed. No make up dates were announced.
Porter’s Chapel Academy has a road baseball game scheduled against Hillcrest Christian, but had not yet postponed it. Coach Rob Riggin said a decision would be made Tuesday morning.
St. Aloysius had a golf tournament at the Vicksburg Country Club, and a tennis match at Central Hinds, called off. A baseball game at East Rankin Academy that was scheduled for Tuesday was played Monday instead.
Vicksburg High and Warren Central both had home softball games — against Germantown and Richland, respectively — preemptively rained out.
Warren Central’s home baseball game vs. Pearl and a tennis match at Northwest Rankin were also postponed. Warren Central will play Madison Central in baseball on Thursday, in a make-up game from a previous rainout. The junior varsity teams will play at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7 at Madison Central.
A line of severe thunderstorms is forecast to move across Central Mississippi Tuesday morning and afternoon The storms will bring heavy rain, hail, lightning and possibly tornadoes, and will cross the Mississippi River into Warren County in the late morning hours.
The National Weather Service has issued a Level 3 — out of 5 — “enhanced” risk for all modes of severe weather. Winds as high as 40 mph could also rake the area ahead of the main line of storms.
In addition to the local high school sports, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Ole Miss announced that they have postponed baseball games scheduled for Tuesday.
Ole Miss’ home game in Oxford against Southeastern Louisiana was canceled and will not be rescheduled.
Southern Miss and Mississippi State pushed their game in Starkville back one day. They will now play at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Dudy Noble Field.
