A man facing an aggravated assault charge for allegedly shooting another man at the Fastway gas station in downtown Vicksburg in December is back in jail this week, this time facing a felony domestic violence charge.
Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones said 20-year-old Rashad Williams was arrested Wednesday on the charge, which is related to an incident that took place Feb. 1 at home on Cain Ridge Road.
“Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance,” Jones said. “In that disturbance, he assaulted a female and injured a female. Because of the injury, it made it a felony.”
Jones said Williams was located using a wristwatch-like monitor he must legally wear after bonding out following his December arrest. Jones said Deputy Chief of Police Troy Kimble noticed a problem with the incident report that sparked this week’s arrest.
“Because of the way the laws have changed for domestics, the way it was originally done, it was done as a misdemeanor,” she said. “So, once we start reading over the reports, this is one (Kimble) found that it should not be a misdemeanor. It should be a felony. So once we realized that, we got with the investigator, signed the felony affidavit and went and picked him up.”
Jones said Williams made an initial appearance Thursday in Vicksburg Municipal Court before Judge Angela Carpenter, who set his bond at $100,000 and bound him over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
Jones also said Williams will appear in a Warren County courtroom, where his initial bond for aggravated assault could be revoked. Williams received a $250,000 bond for that charge in December.
