- Dr. Toriano "Tori" Holloway.
The Vicksburg-Warren School District (VWSD) School Board of Trustees during its Feb. 20 meeting unanimously voted to extend the contract of the Superintendent of Schools Dr. Toriano Holloway for one year and increase his salary by 3%.
“Dr. Holloway maintained ‘B’ status for our district and has, so far, with the fund balance – or cash stabilization fund – increased it. We’re in the black as far as money is concerned,” School Board President Jim Stirgus said of the decision. “That is one of the key issues I believe in besides the safety of the kids, that we have money to operate on. He’s doing what we’re asking of him at this time.”
Holloway’s extension comes with a pay bump, increasing his annual salary to approximately $179,900, Stirgus said.
The Superintendent Evaluation Form, published on the VWSD School Board agenda, lists areas in which the superintendent is evaluated. The evaluation pertains to his interactions with the school board across many areas; however, Stirgus said the results of the evaluation given by the school board is considered a confidential employee matter.
Holloway’s employment with the VWSD began in May 2023 following the retirement of Chad Shealy. Holloway was previously the superintendent of schools in Simpson County and has 25 years of experience in the educational system. He earned his undergraduate degree from the Mississippi University for Women and his master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly reported that Tupelo School District’s Robert Picou was the highest paid superintendent in the state, making approximately $247,000. We apologize for the error.
