100 YEARS AGO: 1925

Bill Dorney, for years a blacksmith with the A&V Railroad, was reported very ill. • Montgomery Brothers  bought two buildings  on Mulberry Street.

90 YEARS AGO: 1935

Maj. J.C. Hamilton launched a movement to have a state park and game preserve opened in the county. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

Olive Dowell of Greenwood was in Vicksburg conferring with Warren Home Demonstration Club women. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

Services were held for Mrs. Martha Davis of Utica. • J.S. Sullivan died.   

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Mrs. Nora Ellen Anderson died. • Mrs. F.H. Reid of Tallulah celebrated her 99th birthday. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Mrs. Joe Cephas Rush died. • Mop-up crews were cleaning an oil spill after a river tow crashed into the old Vicksburg Bridge. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

United Way named Toi Lanford as its new executive director. • Amy Lauren Davis celebrated her fourth birthday. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Gustina Tolliver died in a house fire on Murray’s Alley. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

Chris Collins, 35, was out of the hospital after West Nile virus put him in a coma. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

Vicksburgers were preparing for the time to change, as daylight savings time was set to begin March 8.
