The second mural to be painted in Gordon’s Alley in downtown Vicksburg is currently underway as part of a project that began in early 2025.
“The arrival of the New Year marks the commencement of Vicksburg Main Street Program Gordon’s Alley Project, and we are enthusiastic about its potential,” Main Street Executive Director Kim Hopkins said in January during work on the first mural. “Observe the stunning new mural that is presently being crafted. Our goal is to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the alley through various initiatives, including the creation of new murals, pressure washing, the installation of lighting and poles, and the placement of planters. We invite you to follow our progress.”
This week, Hopkins posted on social media to alert people that the second piece of artwork is currently underway in the alley under the direction of artist Andrea Kostyal.
“We are thrilled to announce our new mural project in Gordon’s Alley, made possible by ARPA funds provided by the Mississippi Main Street Association and the Mississippi legislature,” she wrote. “We appreciate the City of Vicksburg’s cooperation in facilitating these enhancements.”
