1 dead, 2 wounded in Tuesday night shooting

One man has died and two other people have been hospitalized after a shooting Tuesday night in the area of Locust and Jefferson streets.

Vicksburg Chief of Police Penny Jones said officers responded to the shooting just before 11 p.m.

“Officers from the Vicksburg Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Locust and Jefferson streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 19-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported by ambulance for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries,” Jones said. “Shortly after, E911 dispatch notified officers that two additional gunshot victims had arrived at the hospital.”

Jones said officers also recovered illegal narcotics during the course of the shooting investigation.

“Through further investigation, officers determined that the incident originated inside an apartment where a significant quantity of drugs was recovered,” she said. “The investigation remains active as detectives work to gather video footage and witness statements to identify those involved.”

Jones said more details will be made available as the investigation continues, but urged anyone with information to reach out to law enforcement.
