Two men from outside Warren County have been taken into custody and charged with capital murder in connection with a fatal shooting Tuesday night in Vicksburg.

Vicksburg Chief of Police Penny Jones said the shooting claimed the life of 19-year-old Quincy Peoples of Vicksburg and left two others hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The initial investigation, Jones said, indicates the shooting was the result of an attempted robbery that may have been related to illegal narcotics.

“Tuesday, officers from Vicksburg Police Department responded to the area of Jefferson and Locust streets in reference to a male who had been shot,” Jones said. “Once on the scene, the ambulance crew took him to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.”

Taken into custody were 21-year-old Tyler Terry of Canton and 20-year-old Javien Shannon of Jackson.

Tuesday night, Jones said the initial investigation revealed the incident’s origin to be an apartment complex near the scene of the crime where a large amount of illegal narcotics were also recovered.

VPD has not yet released the names of the additional pair of victims; however, Jones said Wednesday one person sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and is currently in stable condition. A third victim is in stable, but more serious, condition after being struck multiple times by gunfire, she said.

Both Terry and Shannon made initial appearances Wednesday in Vicksburg Municipal Court.

Terry faces charges that include two counts of aggravated assault with a bond of $150,000 each; armed robbery, $150,000; capital murder, $750,000.

Shannon faces charges of possession of a stolen firearm, $25,000; capital murder, $750,000; armed robbery, $100,000; and two counts of aggravated assault, $100,000 each.

Both men were bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.

Jones said the investigation remains active and additional arrests are expected.
