100 YEARS AGO: 1925

Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Allen motored to Yazoo City to hear Gypsy Smith. • Guerney Clarke was home from the University of Mississippi.

90 YEARS AGO: 1935

Jack Stagg of Culkin Academy won the Four-H Club boys seed contest. • Paage Mangum was elected master counselor of the Mississippi State DeMolay Association. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

Staff Sgt. J. Hamilton Sears arrived in San Francisco after service in the Pacific. • WAC Pvt. Marian Pugh graduated with honors from the school for Medical Department Technicians in El Paso. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

T.B. Kennedy and Katherine Mather of Waterways Experiment Station were named recipients of the Wason Award, presented at the American Concrete Institute’s annual convention. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Services were held for Mrs. Alice Lewis. • Registration opened for the Warner-Tully YMCA camp. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Heavy rain flooded Hamilton Heights Subdivision. • Mr. and Mrs. William H. Mayberry announced the birth of a daughter, Barbara Marie. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

House and Senate panels agreed on a $2,300 teacher pay raise. • Theda Shirley left her teaching job after 22 years with the Warren County school system. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Jack Cooper was selected as president of the River city Radio Control Club. • Catherine Grey Coleman auditioned to be cast in the Royal Academy of Music in London. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

Repairs to the U.S. 80 Mississippi River bridge cost $7.5 million. • Benjamin A. Holmes celebrated his third birthday. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

A ceremony celebrating the newest addition to Crosses Across America was being rescheduled after being delayed by inclement weather.
