Flashes go 3-for-3 at spring break tournament

- St. Aloysius baseball player Carson Smith went 7-for-11 with four RBIs and five runs scored as the Flashes won three games Wednesday at the Bulldog Bash tournament at Riverside High School.
Winning big was all in a very full day’s work for the St. Aloysius Flashes.
The Flashes scored a total of 41 runs on 30 hits as they won all three of their games at the Bulldog Bash spring break baseball tournament on Wednesday. They beat Greenville 13-0, Indianola Academy 11-6, and the tournament host Riverside 17-0.
St. Al has outscored its opponents 46-7 during a four-game winning steak.
St. Al (8-6) started the split tripleheader by manhandling Greenville. Carson Smith had three of the Flashes’ 10 hits, along with three RBIs and two runs scored. He hit an RBI single and a two-run double as the Flashes batted around and scored 10 runs in the fourth inning.
Laken Bradley, Keller Bradley and Clark Hobson also drove in two runs apiece. Sadler Lambiotte was 2-for-3 with two singles and a walk, one RBI, and two runs scored. Robert Lee also scored two runs.
Max Hargrave turned in an excellent outing on the mound. He pitched all four innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out nine batters.
In game two, the Flashes took control early by scoring six runs in the first inning and five more in the third on their way to a four-inning win over Indianola Academy. The game was shortened because of tournament rules.
Smith had another big game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Keller Bradley was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Lambiotte also drove in three runs.
Walt Andrews also singled twice and walked, scored two runs and drove in another.
Evan Mallard pitched three innings and allowed five runs, two earned, while striking out two. Laken Bradley finished up in the fourth inning and did not allow a run.
In their final game of the day, the Flashes flooded out Riverside by scoring seven runs in the first inning, then five more in both the second and third, and rolling to another easy victory.
Smith once again was a star at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, one RBI and one run scored. He finished the day 7-for-11, with three extra base hits, four RBIs and five runs scored.
Keller Bradley was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs against Riverside. He also pitched two scoreless innings and had four strikeouts.
Andrews was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Lee, Lambiotte and Laken Bradley all scored twice.
St. Al will have the rest of the week off, and then will play a home-and-home series with Central Hinds next week. The teams play at Bazinsky Field in Vicksburg on March 18 and at Central Hinds’ campus in Raymond on March 21. The junior varsity games start at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 6 both days.
