St. Al’s Julia Moberley is The Post’s Athlete of the Week

Published 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 12, 2025

Just like she’s done early in this high school track season, Julia Moberley set a mark in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest that none of her competitors could match.

The St. Aloysius track and field athlete received 929 of the 1,902 votes cast in an online poll of The Post’s readers to take the award in a competitive showdown.

Vicksburg High track athlete Amiya Hall finished second, with 620 votes. Porter’s Chapel Academy baseball player Chad Fuson was third, with 316 votes, and Warren Central track athlete Arrionna Jenkins was fourth with 83. The top three vote-getters were separated by less than 200 votes with a few hours left in the voting, but a late surge of support pushed Moberley over the top.

Moberley, a senior, won the discus at the PCS Invitational on March 1 and again at the Centreville Invitational on March 6, with throws of 85 feet, 2 inches and 84-11. She also finished second in the shot put at Centreville with a throw of 27-4.25.

Moberley reached the MAIS Class 5A state meet in the discus in 2024.

Congratulations to Julia and the other nominees, and thank you to our readers for voting.

The nominees for the Athlete of the Week award are announced each Sunday, and voting is open until midnight Tuesday. Links to the poll will be posted on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter/X pages, as well as vicksburgpost.com.
