The Warren County Board of Supervisors is currently researching different models of waste collection as its contract with Waste Management nears its end.
The current contract was signed in October of 2019 and will expire this fall. Three companies originally competed for the bid: Waste Management; Waste Pro; and Arrow Disposal Service.
Warren County Board of Supervisors President Kelle Barfield said the supervisors and county personnel have been collecting data and feedback from other counties about the pros and cons of different models.
With the current model, the county negotiates a rate for trash pickup and residents opt-in to the service, paying Waste Management directly. Another possible model would be to have residents pay through taxes instead.
