Vicksburg mayoral candidate Willis Thompson said this week he is hitting the road and heading straight to the people with the launch of his Community Listening Tour: Straight Talk with Willis.

Thompson said the initiative is designed to take him directly into neighborhoods and key community spaces across Vicksburg to listen to residents’ concerns, answer questions, and discuss solutions for the city’s future.

“This campaign is about the people of Vicksburg,” Thompson said. “I want to hear from residents about the challenges they face, the changes they want to see, and their vision for our city. Real leadership starts with listening.”

Through this tour, Thompson said he will host small, meaningful discussions where residents can speak openly about their concerns regarding public safety, youth development, infrastructure, beautification, business opportunities, and more. Thompson said, as part of his commitment to accessibility, he is encouraging residents, neighborhood groups, churches, and businesses to request a listening session in their community.

“As I’ve said from the beginning, we must work together to create a Vicksburg that is safe, thriving, and full of opportunity,” he said. “That starts with open, honest conversations. If we want meaningful results, we need to build real connections with the people who call this city home.”

Thompson, who previously served as South Ward Alderman from 2013-2017 and currently works in the private sector, said he brings a strong background in business, technology, and community leadership, adding his campaign focuses on public safety, youth development, beautification, infrastructure improvements, code enforcement, and creating a business-friendly environment.

“The Community Listening Tour: Straight Talk with Willis is not just a campaign event,” he said. “It’s a movement toward a city government that listens, responds, and takes action for its people.”

Thompson is one of three candidates vying for the office of mayor, including incumbent George Flaggs Jr. – who is running for his fourth consecutive term in office – and fellow challenger Kasman Massey.
