March 16, 2025– Disaster-trained workers with the American Red Cross of Alabama and Mississippi are working with officials after strong storms, tornados and heavy rain ripped through the state on Saturday night.
Damage assessment is beginning in affected communities today (Sunday, March 16). Red Cross case workers will work with families affected to meet their immediate disaster-caused needs.
“We are committed to helping those impacted recover from these storms,” Red Cross officials said in a statement.
Anyone in need of help as a result of the tornados/storms may call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
After Severe Weather:
- If power lines are down outside your home, don’t step in puddles or standing water. Report them immediately to the power company.
- If the power is out, use a flashlight. Don’t use any candles or open flames for lighting.
- If you smell gas or hear a hissing noise, leave the property immediately and get far away from it. Call the fire department after you reach safety.
