Warren Central closes in on Region 2-6A tennis title

Warren Central’s tennis team is one win away from the MHSAA Region 2-6A championship.

The Vikings won four of the five doubles points, and added another in boys singles as they dispatched Neshoba Central 5-2 on Monday in a key region match. Warren Central (11-5, 4-0 Region 2-6A) can clinch the region title by beating Vicksburg Tuesday at Halls Ferry Park. That match begins at 4 p.m.

Ivan Ozherelev beat Colin Crenshaw 6-0, 6-1 in boys singles and then the Vikings’ doubles teams took care of the rest.

Luke Bond and Brady Taylor rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 1 boys doubles, while Sam Harris and Gray Lampkin won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 point.

In girls doubles the No. 1 team of Sydney Sullivan and Lilli Feibelman defeated Presley Pope and Braxton Reese 6-2, 6-0. In No. 2 doubles, Ellie Tennison and Avery Hern were ahead 5-0 in the first set when one of Neshoba Central’s players retired due to an injury and the Rockets forfeited the point.

Neshoba Central won the girls singles and mixed doubles points in straight sets.
