- Warren Central softball pitcher Madison Pant allowed two runs and had four strikeouts in a complete game, but the Lady Vikes lost 2-1 Tuesday to reigning Louisiana Class 3A champion Sterlington.
Warren Central went toe to toe with one of Louisiana’s best high school softball teams, but couldn’t quite punch its way through to the win column.
Warren Central only mustered two hits, both in the fifth inning, and lost 2-1 to Louisiana Class 3A champion Sterlington on Tuesday.
Madison Pant pitched a complete game for Warren Central (4-7). She allowed two runs, both in the fourth inning, and had four strikeouts.
Sterlington’s Aubrie Carter led off the fourth inning with a single, and Ava West then slugged a home run over the center field fence for a 2-0 lead. Those were two of the five hits that Sterlington (8-3) had in the game.
Warren Central put together a two-out rally in the fifth, as Mari Kynlea Ferguson hit a double and courtesy runner K.K. Williamson scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Vikes only had one baserunner and no hits over the last two innings, however.
Sterlington pitcher Allie Chrislip allowed two hits, walked five batters, and had nine strikeouts in five innings. Evie West worked the last two innings without allowing a hit to get the save.
Warren Central had a three-game winning streak snapped. It’ll be off until next Tuesday, March 25, when it hosts Ridgeland in the MHSAA Region 2-6A opener.
Neshoba Central 13, Vicksburg 1
Addy Walker Phillips went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Eden Ben hit an inside the park home run, and Neshoba Central (9-4, 4-0 Region 2-6A) completed a sweep of its season series with Vicksburg High (0-7, 0-2).
Neshoba Central has won 49 consecutive games against region opponents since 2015.
Vicksburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Trinity McGloster led off with a single and scored on another single by Shandrea Lockridge. Lockridge finished 2-for-2 with the one RBI.
Neshoba Central answered with seven runs in the bottom of the first, however, and never looked back.
The Missy Gators will host Florence Thursday at 6:15 p.m., and then host their annual Strike Out Cancer Tournament Saturday at the Softball Swamp Field on Army Navy Drive.
