Baseball Roundup: Vikings are perfect against Columbus; Gators, Flashes come up short

The real baseball season started for Warren Central on Friday, and it started well.

Four pitchers combined on a pair of five-inning, run-rule shortened no-hitters as the Vikings swept Columbus 14-0 and 11-0 in a doubleheader to open the MHSAA Region 2-6A schedule.

Maddox Lynch had nine strikeouts in four innings, and Ryan Steed worked the final inning for the 14-0 win in game one. Steed hit a batter with two outs in the fifth inning to keep the duo from combining on a perfect game.

Tristan Jamison and Thomas Antwine avoided that one miscue and did pitch a perfect game in the 11-0 win in game two. Jamison started and had six strikeouts in two innings, then Antwine had four in three innings of relief.

Jamison also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in game two. Lynch doubled, drove in two runs and scored two, while Hayes Loper was 2-for-3 with two triples and two runs scored.

Loper also hit an RBI double in game one, and Steed was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Trace Hood also had two hits and scored twice.

Warren Central will play a home-and-home region series with Neshoba Central next week, Tuesday at Neshoba and Friday (March 28) at Viking Field. Both varsity games start at 7 p.m.

Ridgeland 24, Vicksburg 6
Jarvis Woody went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs scored, Isaiah McClenty had four hits and drove in four runs, and Ridgeland (4-5, 2-0 Region 2-6A) rallied to avoid a stunning upset against Vicksburg High (4-11, 0-2) on Friday.

Vicksburg lost 18-0 when the teams played on Tuesday, but scored six runs in the second inning Friday to take a 6-1 lead. Kaleb Doss hit an RBI double, while Allan Allen and Seven West had RBI singles.

Ridgeland then scored four runs in the top of the third inning, seven in the fourth to take the lead for good, and then 11 in the sixth to turn it into a blowout. In all, the Titans had 20 hits and scored 23 unanswered runs.

West finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Vicksburg, and Doss was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

The Gators will play at Quitman Saturday at 3 p.m., and then host Crystal Springs Tuesday t 7 p.m.

Central Hinds 9, St. Aloysius 7
St. Aloysius (9-7) erased most of a six-run deficit, but not all, and lost to Central Hinds (5-12) in the second half of a home-and-home series Friday.

St. Al won when the teams played in Vicksburg on Tuesday. In the rematch in Raymond, Central Hinds raced to a 7-1 lead through two innings, then hung on after St. Al got it back to 7-6 in the fourth.

Price Foil was 4-for-4 with two runs scored for Central Hinds. Cooper Loftin was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Walker Bradford, Jay Shuff and Ryan Hall had two RBIs apiece.

For St. Al, Laken Bradley went 4-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored, and Walt Andrews was 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Both players hit two doubles each.

Sadler Lambiotte also went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.

St. Al will begin its MAIS District 4-5A schedule next week. It will play at Adams County Christian School Tuesday at 6 p.m., and then host the Rebels on Friday, March 28, for a doubleheader at Bazinsky Field starting at 4:30 p.m.

Tallulah Academy 22, Tensas Academy 1
Aiden Harris drove in four runs, Luke Moberley scored four, and Tripp Gayle pitched a run-rule shortened gem as Tallulah Academy avenged a loss earlier in the week by routing Tensas Academy.

All nine batters in Tallulah’s lineup had at least one RBI and scored one run. Moberley was 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the way, Harris had two hits and scored three runs, and Charlie Vining and J.T. McDaniel both had three RBIs.

Gayle allowed one run, one walk and two hits in four innings. He had eight strikeouts. At the plate he was 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

Tallulah Academy will host Prairie View Academy Monday at 6 p.m.
