The arrest of a Vicksburg man for felony possession of marijuana this week has ties to the shooting death of a Vicksburg man who was killed in mid-March, Vicksburg Chief of Police Penny Jones said.
According to information from the Vicksburg Police Department (VPD), Tayvion Pope’s bond was set at $15,000 in relation to a charge stemming from a March 11 incident on Jefferson Street.
That incident, Jones said, was the shooting death of 19-year-old Quincy Peoples of Vicksburg. Two others were also hospitalized with gunshot wounds stemming from the incident.
Less than 24 hours after Peoples was killed, two men from outside Warren County were taken into custody and charged with capital murder in connection with the fatal shooting.
Arrested were 21-year-old Tyler Terry of Canton and 20-year-old Javien Shannon of Jackson. Terry faces charges that include two counts of aggravated assault with a bond of $150,000 each; armed robbery, $150,000; capital murder, $750,000. Shannon faces charges of possession of a stolen firearm, $25,000; capital murder, $750,000; armed robbery, $100,000; and two counts of aggravated assault, $100,000 each.
The initial investigation, Jones said, indicated the shooting was the result of an attempted robbery that may have been related to illegal narcotics, including the marijuana connected to Pope’s arrest.
Jones said VPD’s investigation into the incident remains open.
