Missy Gators win two at Strike Out Cancer softball tournament

Vicksburg High’s softball team played well while playing for a good cause Saturday.
The Missy Gators won two of three games at their annual Strike Out Cancer Tournament at the Softball Swamp. They beat Yazoo City 14-12 and Brookhaven 6-1, before losing 9-7 to Yazoo County in the finale.
Five teams — Vicksburg, Yazoo City, Yazoo County, Brookhaven and Riverside — played in the day-long tournament, which was also to raise money and awareness for cancer charities around Warren County.
In their opener, the Missy Gators (2-9) defeated Yazoo City for their first win of the season.
Camden McGloster hit an inside-the-park home run, whil;e Madisyn Kimble hit an RBI triple. Taylor Howard and Kennedy Williams had two hits apiece.
In their second game, the Missy Gators won again vs. Brookhaven. Avery Van Norman, Trinity McGloster and Zion Harvey all reached base twice and scored twice, and Lili Kistler had an outstanding performance in the pitcher’s circle.
Kistler allowed four hits, one walk, and only one run in five innings. Brookhaven scored against her in the top of the first inning and then not again.
Harvey hit an RBI double and scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first to give Vicksburg a 3-1 lead and it did not trail again. Shandrea Lockridge added an RBI single during another three-run rally in the third inning.
In their final game, the Missy Gators played hard before losing to Yazoo County. Tommy Gardner hit a two-run single in the top of the fifth inning to give the Panthers a 9-7 lead, and then they held on in the bottom half to win the time limit-shortened game.
Harvey was 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored for Vicksburg. Lockridge was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, Trinity McGloster had two hits and scored two runs, and Van Norman also scored twice.
