Highway 80 at big Black was opened. • Henry A. Hammond died.

Mrs. W.L. Barbour of Ocean Springs and Mrs. Ellis Power and son of Biloxi were in Warren County visiting relatives. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

J.E. Irwin was elected exalted ruler of the Vicksburg Elks, Lodge No. 95. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Brown announced the birth of a son, Richard, on March 17.

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Phillip O’Connor was injured when a tree ell on the windshield of his car. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

Lou Ann English was crowned Miss Vicksburg. • Mr. and Mrs. Charles Robert Welch announced the birth of a daughter, Meggie Kathleen, on March 13. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Vicksburg Mayor Joe Liviza dedicated the expansion of City Front to municipal workers at its formal opening. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

Officials with the U.S. Homeland Security Committee were in Vicksburg to tour the port and meet with local officials. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

Ameristar Casino was flooded with applications after holding a job fair event.
