St. Al tennis wins twice at Vicksburg Invitational

St. Aloysius’ tennis team plowed through its competition Saturday.
The Flashes only lost six sets total as they beat River Oaks 7-2 and Oak Grove 8-1 at the Vicksburg Invitational at Halls Ferry Park.
St. Al had several competitive matches against River Oaks, but did not drop any sets in its seven victories. Walker Moore won 6-4, 6-2 in No. 1 boys singles, while Julia Tuminello won the No. 1 girls singles point 6-2, 6-1 and Jane Mathews took the No. 2 point 6-0, 6-4.
St. Al’s mixed doubles team of Sarah Smith and Lewis Amborn won 6-3, 6-4. The No. 2 boys doubles team of Grant Gattle and Michael Moore won 6-3, 6-4, and both girls doubles teams were victorious as well.
Olivia Larsen and Hendrix Eldridge won 6-4, 6-2, and Carrie and Cristan Wood won 6-2, 6-2.
The Wood sisters also split up to play singles against Oak Grove, and both won their matches. Walker Moore also won a second time in No. 1 boys singles, 6-3, 7-5, and Andrew Johnston won the No. 2 point 7-5, 6-3.
Gattle and Michael Moore won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 boys doubles. Ryan Davidson and Caleb Stewart bounced back from a loss against River Oaks to win their No. 1 boys doubles match 6-1, 6-2.
Larsen and Hendrix also rebounded in girls doubles to win 6-0, 6-2 and Tuminello and Mathews teamed up for a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 point.
St. Al will host Clinton Monday at 4 p.m. at Halls Ferry Park.
