Baseball Roundup: Gators, Vikings, Flashes all score wins

Vicksburg High’s baseball team let big leads slip away in its last two games. This one, it held onto with an iron grip.

The Gators scored four runs in the first inning, then erupted for nine more in the bottom of the third to secure a 13-0 run-rule victory over Crystal Springs on Tuesday.

Peyton Calvin went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two RBIs and one run scored for the Gators (5-12). He hit an RBI single, tripled and scored a run during the big third inning.

Kaleb Doss doubled, scored two runs and drove in two more. Mincer Minor, Nick Carson and Seven West also scored two runs each.

Mickell Jones pitched a one-hitter to get the win. He did not walk a batter and had eight strikeouts in four innings. At the plate, he was 1-for-2 with a single, RBI and one run scored.

The Gators snapped a four-game losing streak that included games against Ridgeland and Quitman in which they blew leads of five and eight runs, respectively. The Gators will play at Clinton Friday at 7 p.m.

Warren Central 6, Neshoba Central 2
Warren Central scored five runs in its last two at-bats to surge past Neshoba Central in a pivotal MHSAA Region 2-6A game on Tuesday.

Maddox Lynch hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth to snap a 1-1 tie, and Blake Caruthers added an RBI single later in the inning. In the seventh, Lynch hit a sacrifice fly and another run scored on an error to make it 6-1.

Trace Hood had three hits for the Vikings (9-8, 3-0 Region 2-6A), and Hayes Loper was 2-for-4 with one run scored. Lynch had three RBIs.

Nathaniel Moore pitched six innings and had nine strikeouts. Beau Bradley struck out two batters while finishing up with a scoreless seventh.

Warren Central and Neshoba Central (9-7, 0-1) will play again Friday at 7 p.m., at WC’s Viking Field.

St. Aloysius 14, ACCS 9
Laken Bradley went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead St. Aloysius (10-7) past Adams County Christian School in its MAIS District 4-5A opener.

The teams traded rallies throughout the game, and then St. Al finally put it away with three runs in the top of the seventh. Carson Smith hit an RBI single, and then two more runs scored on a pair of erorrs.

Smith was 2-for-3 with two singles, two walks, one RBI and one run scored. Sadler Lambiotte doubled and had three RBIs, and Pierson Smith had two hits and two RBIs for the Flashes. Keller Bradley also reached base four times and scored twice.

St. Al and ACCS will play again Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Bazinsky Field in Vicksburg.

Central Hinds 13, Porter’s Chapel 3
Jay Shuff had three RBIs and scored three runs, and Walker Bradford went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI as Central Hinds (7-12) run-ruled Porter’s Chapel Academy (1-15).

Trey Askew and Aaden George had two RBIs apiece for Central Hinds. Bradford pitched five innings and had nine strikeouts.

Evan Gordon was 1-for-2 with a single, one RBI and one run scored for PCA. Carson Hays walked twice and scored a run, Conley Johnston had one hit and scored a run, and Hunter Simms had one RBI.

PCA and Central Hinds will play again Friday at 6:30 p.m. at PCA.

Tallulah Academy 6, Christ Covenant 2
Aiden Harris doubled in two runs and scored another, Kennedy Collins also hit an RBI double, and Tallulah Academy (9-6) beat Christ Covenant on Tuesday.

Luke Moberley reached base twice and scored twice for Tallulah.

Charlie Vining had four strikeouts in five innings pitched and helped his own cause with an RBI single.
Tallulah Academy will host Deer Creek Thursday at 6 p.m.

Briarfield 22, Union Christian 0
Briarfield Academy (9-5) scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back is it run-ruled Union Christian.

Jackson Thornton and Ryder Jones each had two hits and scored three runs for Briarfield. Maverick Weeks was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Briarfield will host Riverdale Academy Friday at 4 p.m. in Lake Providence, La.
