During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) approved the latest list of derelict properties on the Community Development Agenda.
Community Development Director Jeff Richardson presented the latest list, which included properties that pose a risk to the community based on the need for cleanup, demolishing of unsafe structures or other maintenance work.
Tuesday’s list included:
- 3022 Green St.; property cleanup; demolition; not complied;
- 1210 Openwood St.; property cleanup; vehicle removal; not complied;
- 1420 Washington St.; property cleanup; currently in process of compliance.
City ordinances require property owners to keep their properties cut and clear of debris and their homes repaired. A violation results in a letter from the city ordering the property owner to clean the property or demolish the dilapidated home.
Under city ordinance and state law, the city may go in and cut and clean property or hire a private contractor to clean property determined to be a threat to public health and safety, and place a tax lien on the property.
