Lady Vikes sweep softball doubleheader from Columbus

Warren Central cleared another obstacle on its way to a showdown with one of Mississippi’s best high school softball teams.

KeKe McKay had four hits and scored three runs, and Kennadi Williams had four RBIs as Warren Central swept a doubleheader from Columbus on Friday, 11-0 and 19-4.

Warren Central won the first game by scoring in all five innings of the run-rule shortened 11-0 victory. Williams had two RBIs and scored twice, Addi Mullen also drove in two runs, and Mari Kynlea Ferguson scored two.

Emily Muirhead was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored as well.

McKay was a standout at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle. She was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, while striking out nine batters in four scoreless innings pitched. McKay allowed two hits and no walks.

Columbus struck for four runs in the first inning of game two, but Warren Central again made quick work of the Lady Falcons by answering with five runs in the bottom of the first and 14 in the second inning to win 19-4.

McKay was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored, Williams hit a two-run double in the second inning, and Madison Pant had three RBIs for just a few of many Lady Vikes hitting stars.

Whitley Parks was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored, and Anzley Keen was 2-for-2 with one RBI and three runs scored.

Pant and Emily Muirhead combined on a three-inning no-hitter while handling the pitching duties. They had eight strikeouts between them.

The sweep gave Warren Central (7-8, 3-0 MHSAA Region 2-6A) six wins in its last seven games heading into a match-up with Class 6A powerhouse Neshoba Central (11-6, 2-0) Tuesday at Neshoba. Since 2015, Neshoba Central has won 51 consecutive region games and six state championships.
