The Vicksburg Fire Department fought and extinguished fires at two residents on opposite ends of town, managing to avoid major damage and any injury in the process, and all within approximately 10 hours.

Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps said the first house fire took place Thursday night at a home on Belva Drive, off Highway 61 South.

“At approximately 9:19 p.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 301 Belva Dr.,” Stamps said. “Upon arrival, firefighters noticed smoke coming from the structure. Crews conducted an interior attack and successfully extinguished the fire, containing it to the room of origin. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.”

The second fire took place early Friday morning at a home on Irene Street, just off north Washington Street.

“At around 6:30 a.m., the Vicksburg Fire Department quickly responded to a fire at 172 Irene St.,” he said. “When they arrived, firefighters encountered flames pouring from the building, creating a striking glow against the early morning sky. Demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork, the firefighters worked hard to contain the blaze, successfully stopping its spread and preventing further damage to the structure.”

Stamps said the second fire also resulted in no injuries.

Official causes of the fires remain under investigation.
