First responders get tasked with doing some odd things, but it isn’t likely members of the Warren County Fire Service (WCFS) expected to find themselves neck-deep in mud in mid-March when they saved a pooch who had gotten stuck along the Big Black River.
The 170-pound English Mastiff named Dolly became stuck in the mud after her owner, Lacey Allen, stopped in route from Arkansas to New Orleans to let her dogs stretch their legs.
Allen, who is pregnant, called 911 and WCFS rode to the rescue. Following the event, WCFS Coordinator Jerry Briggs said he and Jeremiah O’Neal, Zachary Hearn, Jonah Masterson and Neal Pryor used a series of ropes and harnesses to retrieve the dog from the thick muck.
