PCA tennis routs Prairie View to stay undefeated in District 4-3A

Porter’s Chapel Academy’s singles players aced their latest tennis exam.

Hadleigh Slayton, Mia Abdo and Henry Slayton all won their matches 6-0, 6-0 on Monday, as Porter’s Chapel beat Prairie View 8-1 to remain undefeated in MAIS District 4-3A.

PCA (4-3, 3-0 District 4-3A) also earned forfeit victories in No. 2 boys singles and both boys doubles points. Along with the three singles points it was enough to win the team total, but the Eagles added a couple more victories anyway.

The No. 1 girls doubles team of Marley Bufkin and Sophie Masterson defeated Prairie View’s Ava Claire Barnhill 6-1, 6-2, and the mixed doubles team of Mak Madison and Noah LaBarre beat Melody Garcia and Bobby Doan 6-2, 7-5.

Prairie View’s only point came in No. 2 girls doubles, where Kinsley Myers and Avery Wellbrink edged PCA’s Jordan Combs and Hannah Everett in a third-set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).

PCA will play Franklin Academy on Friday, and then St. Augustine next Monday, April 7, with the latter likely being for the regular-season district championship. Both matches are at Halls Ferry Park and will start at 3:30 p.m.
