Trial dates set for manslaughter of child, murder of elderly man, others in Warren County court

A total of 10 defendants were seen for pretrial hearings in Warren County courtrooms Monday, including separate cases involving the death of a child and an elderly man.

A trial date of April 16 was set for Thomas Hardmon for the charge of manslaughter by culpable negligence in the 2021 death of his 11-year-old cousin, Rashawn Wilbert. Hardmon is accused of shooting the child with a shotgun.

Carolyn Mansfield and Albert Thomas both face charges of depraved heart murder and arson in the February 2024 death of 75-year-old Ernest Gleese during a fire at a home located at 508 1/2 Speed St. Firefighters who arrived at the scene found Gleese’s body after extinguishing the fire. Trial was set for April 29.

Eric Clayton, who is being held on charges of burglary of a vehicle and non-residential burglary from May 2020, and a second non-residential burglary in March 2021, saw a tentative trial date set for the April 29 term.

Elvin Westcott, who is being held for arson and non-residential burglary, was not present in court and was determined to be in the custody of the state hospital.

Darrell Hill, who is being held on charges of rape, kidnapping and attempted aggravated assault, was ordered to the state hospital for an assessment of mental competency pending trial.

Felicia Harris, who is out on bond for charges of hindering the prosecution in a murder, was given a trial date for the April 29 term.

John Erwin was sentenced to seven years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with five years to serve and two years suspended, for being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Marshall Davidson pleaded guilty to burglary. In November, he admitted to having burglarized the home of a 73-year-old woman. He entered a plea of guilty in court with sentencing set for a future date so the victim will have a chance to make a statement.

A hearing for Rashad Williams, who is charged with aggravated assault, was postponed. He is accused of shooting a man in December at a gas station at the corner of Cherry and Clay streets.
