Published 9:26 am Wednesday, April 2, 2025

Warren Central did its best to dislodge Neshoba Central from the top of the MHSAA Region 2-6A softball standings, but the Lady Rockets just won’t budge.

Neshoba Central scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, on a throwing error and a single by Xiomara Fireplace, and held off Warren Central 2-0 on Tuesday.

It was the 52nd consecutive region victory for Neshoba Central (12-6, 5-0 Region 2-6), a streak that started in 2015.

Warren Central (7-10, 4-1) has pushed Neshoba as hard as anyone. It also lost a close game to them last season and did again in the first of two meetings for 2025.

Madison Pant allowed three hits and five walks, but no runs through the first five innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Charmayne Morris hit a one-out single for Neshoba Central. Pinch runner Eden Ben stole second and came all the way around to score the game’s first run on a bad throw.

The batter, Lacie Morris, walked and then courtesy runner Samantha Singleton scored on Fireplace’s single to make it 2-0. After that, pitcher Raeleigh Cumberland completed a gem by retiring the Lady Vikes in order in the top of the seventh.

Cumberland only had one strikeout, but retired 21 of the 23 batters she faced. KeKe McKay singled with one out in the first inning for Warren Central’s only hit. Its only other baserunner was Kennadi Williams, who reached on an error in the fifth.

Warren Central will get another crack at Neshoba next Tuesday, April 8, at Lucy Young Field. Before that, it’ll host Vicksburg High on Thursday and Brookhaven for senior night on Friday. All of the junior varsity games start at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:15.

Florence 15, Vicksburg 5
Navayiah Aaron was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and four runs scored, and Florence used a couple of big innings to pull away from a stubborn Vicksburg High team Tuesday.

Vicksburg (3-10) scored twice in the top of the fourth inning, on an error and an RBI fielder’s choice by Trinity McGloster, to pull to within 6-3. Then Florence struck back for five runs in the bottom half and four more in the fifth to win via the mercy rule.

Harmony Harris had a hit and scored twice for Vicksburg, and Makynzie Dunmore was 1-for-2 with one RBI. McGloster and Madisyn Kimble also drove in one run each.

Vicksburg will play at Warren Central on Thursday. The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:15.
