St. Al’s Walt Andrews is The Post’s Athlete of the Week

Walt Andrews helped launch St. Aloysius’ baseball team into first place in MAIS District 4-5A, and it propelled him to the top in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.
The sophomore outfielder received 6,796 of the 8,427 votes cast in an online poll of The Post’s readers to earn this week’s award.
Warren Central softball player Madison Pant received 789 votes, to edge Tallulah Academy baseball player Caleb Grady’s 764 for second place. Vicksburg High powerlifter Cedrionna Blackmore finished fourth with 564 votes.
Andrews batted .400 with four RBIs and four runs scored in a three-game series sweep of ACCS last week. He reached base in eight of his 14 plate appearances and had three stolen bases.
On Tuesday, Andrews had a game-winning RBI single as the Flashes beat Copiah Academy 3-2 to improve to 4-0 in District 4-5A. For the season, he is batting .352 with four doubles, 16 RBIs and 20 runs scored in 20 games. He has a .521 on-base percentage.
