The powerful towboat U.S.S. Colner reached port.

Marine Cpl. James McMaullan died of wounds received in action in the Pacific. • Services were held for Ashburn White, a well-known Vicksburg resident.

The new East Carroll Parish Hospital was dedicated in Lake Providence, Louisiana. • Mr. and Mrs. William H. Anderson announced the birth of a son, Lawrence.
60 YEARS AGO: 1965
Mrs. Martha E. Pope died. • Services were held for Walter L. Pierce.

Navy seaman recruit John G. Booth, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Booth, graduated from recruit training.

Circuit Judge Frank Vollor asked Warren County for help in setting up a drug court program.

Former Warren County Circuit Clerk Shelly Ashley-Palmertree was ordered to repay $818,251 in restitution for her salary above what was allowed by the state, as well as questionable subcontractor payments.
