A spring racquet sports festival kicked off Saturday at Halls Ferry Park, with the second edition of the Miss Mississippi Pickleball Tournament.
Nearly 60 people participated in the one-day doubles tournament. There were two brackets each for men’s and women’s doubles, and three for mixed doubles.
The men’s doubles winners were the teams of Robert Rhett and Cameron Bounds, and David Peabody and Ezra Price.
The women’s winners were Avery Bouchillon and Barbara Mooney, and Nellie Hopkins and Dolores Lanier.
The mixed doubles winners were Avery Bouchillon and Austin Mathis; Charlie Little and Dolores Lanier; and Bryton Hixson and Anna Grant.
The tournament was the first of two back-to-back fundraisers for the Miss Mississippi Corporation. Miss Mississippi contestants were on hand and one, Miss Capital City Anna Lee Jolly, played in the tournament. Jolly and her partner Michael Foley finished third in the Mixed Doubles 2 bracket.
The Miss Mississippi Tennis Tournament is the second event scheduled. It will be played April 11-13 at the Halls Ferry Park courts. It is a doubles tournament, with men’s and women’s events for players ages 18-55 and over, as well as a high school division for younger players. Entry fees are $30 and $40, depending on the division.
