100 YEARS AGO: 1925 

George B. Hackett was chairman of the committee for the floral parade, part of the Vicksburg centennial celebration.

90 YEARS AGO: 1935

The Antlers Club gave a dance at the Elks Club. • W.W. Ramsey, candidate for lieutenant governor, returned from a trip in southeast Mississippi. 

80 YEARS AGO: 1945

Sister Mary Dorthea Crahen died at the convent of St. Francis Xavier Academy. 

70 YEARS AGO: 1955

Easter services were held  at sunrise on Fort Nogales. • Services were held for Fred Richardson. 

60 YEARS AGO: 1965

H.I. Cloud, a former Warren County resident, died in Baton Rouge. • Mrs. Sally Rowan died. 

50 YEARS AGO: 1975

Louis Hattaway Jr. was elected president of the Hardwood Dimension Manufactures Association. 

40 YEARS AGO: 1985

Corinne Pride died. • Daniel Lee Johnston was named to the Holmes Junior College Hall of Fame. 

30 YEARS AGO: 1995

Martha B. Skelton of Vicksburg was a finalist on the nation’s largest and most  prestigious quilt competition, the American Quilter’s Society Show and Contest in Kentucky. 

20 YEARS AGO: 2005

A new boat dock was installed at City Front at the cost of nearly $28,000 to the city. 

10 YEARS AGO: 2015

The family of Otis James Byrd, who was found hanged from a tree behind his Port Gibson home, wanted an independent investigation into the 54-year-old’s death.
