Vicksburg Ward 1 Alderman TJ Mayfield has announced a new program he said is aimed at promoting pride across his district.
The Ward 1 Yard of the Month program is a new initiative that recognizes and celebrates residents who take exceptional pride in their outdoor spaces and contribute to the beauty and livability of Ward 1, Mayfield said.
Each month, one outstanding yard will be selected based on its overall appearance, creativity, landscaping, and upkeep. The chosen property will receive public recognition, a commemorative Yard of the Month sign to display and a special shout-out from Mayfield, he said. Residents of Vicksburg will select these yards via a poll on Facebook.
“This is about more than just lawns and flowers,” Mayfield said. “It’s about neighborhood pride, community engagement, and showing appreciation for the folks who go the extra mile to make Ward 1 shine. Whether it’s a colorful flower bed, creative use of space, or a well-maintained lawn, this program aims to showcase the pride and effort that make Ward 1 a beautiful place to live.”
Nominations are now open to all residents of Ward 1. Individuals may nominate themselves or a neighbor by completing the official application form, available online or at Mayfield’s office. Applicants are encouraged to include photos and a brief description of what makes the yard unique. Properties must be residential properties that are free of debris, clutter, and code violations.
Applications may be downloaded at https://form.jotform.com/250965441451154. Submissions are due the first of each month, but can be submitted at any time during the previous month. Winners will be announced the first week of the following month.
