Merit Health River Region has announced the return of Joyce W. Muruthi, M.D. 

“Women in the Vicksburg area have more access to healthcare with the return of Joyce W. Muruthi, M.D., to Merit Health Medical Group,” hospital officials said. “Dr. Muruthi, a respected OBGYN, is returning to Merit Health’s Women’s Health clinic after spending the past two years as the associate medical director and obstetrics hospitalist with Texas Pediatrix Medical Group. During her time there, she honed her skills and expanded her knowledge in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.”

Originally from Kenya, Muruthi grew up in New Orleans. She earned her Bachelor of Science in biology from Xavier University of Louisiana and received her Doctor of Medicine from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine. Following her academic journey, she completed her residency at the University of New Mexico Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

“Muruthi joined the Merit Health River Region team in May 2018 and made significant contributions to the hospital and its patients until August 2020,” hospital officials said. “Her return to the hospital was driven by a strong sense of belonging.”
