Athletic training camp
G3 Sports will host an athletic skills training camp every Friday in April, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Sherman Avenue Elementary School athletic field.

The camp is for children ages 6-12 and will be led by former Alcorn State women’s soccer coach Jenna Wallace. Sessions will consist of general speed and agility drills designed to improve coordination and motor skills.

The cost is $10 per child per session, payable in cash or through Cash App. For more information, email groundworksoccer@gmail.com.

Bubba Mims Golf Tournament
Porter’s Chapel Academy will host its annual Bubba Mims Memorial Golf Tournament on April 25 at Vicksburg Country Club.

The four-person scramble will have a shotgun start at 1 p.m., with lunch served at 11:30 a.m. The registration fee is $400 per four-person team, or $100 for each individual player. Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each. Proceeds benefit PCA’s Bubba Mims Memorial Scholarship Fund, named for the late football coach and athletic director.

Learn To Swim
Vicksburg City Pool will hold registration for its American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” program May 14-16, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day; and Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to noon at the City Park Pavilion adjacent to City Pool on Lee Street.

The classes use a level-based system starting at Level 1 (beginners) through Level 6 (advanced). Students must be at least 5 years old and able to stand comfortably in the shallow area of the pool. Adults are also welcome and encouraged to participate, and there are also classes for 3- and 4-year-olds. There is no upper age limit for the program.

The cost for each two week session is $15 and is payable by cash or check only. Because of limited space and high demand, early registration is encouraged for the lower-level beginner classes.

For the 3- and 4 year-olds classes, a parent or adult guardian is required to be in the water with each child. All classes are taught by certified Water Safety Instructors.

Classes are designed to be taught in eight 45-minute periods. Three sessions will be taught throughout the summer and classes will be held Monday through Friday for two weeks. Sessions are scheduled for June 2-13, June 23-July 4, and July 14-25.

For more information, call City Pool manager Sylvia Gurtowski at 601-801-3831 or email her at sgurtowski@vicksburg.org.

The entry fee for the meet is $50 before July 12, and $75 after that date.
