Four choirs, three guest soloists and a full house were featured at the performance of “The Seven Last Words of Christ,” cantata Tuesday night.
The cantata was held at Crawford Street United Methodist Church (UMC) in observance of Holy Week. For the first time, the choirs of Crawford Street UMC, Gibson Memorial UMC, Hawkins UMC and the Vicksburg Chamber Choir joined together to perform.
The cantata was conducted by Crawford Street UMC music director Mary Kate Core. Soloists Lindsay Kate Brown, Stephen Spilger and Dennis Jesse, all recognized singers in the opera profession and faculty members at Louisiana State University, were featured. Music directors Dr. Paul Ballard of Gibson UMC, Mallory Pickering of Hawkins UMC and Christie Beasley of the Vicksburg Chamber Choir also led their choirs in participation.
